A Tribute to J. Gordon Shillingford

The Association of Manitoba Book Publishers is sad to announce that publisher Gordon Shillingford passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 after a brief illness.

Gordon Shillingford worked as a book publisher for nearly thirty years and in the early 1990s established J. Gordon Shillingford Publishing Inc, a respected literary press comprised of several distinct imprints including Scirocco Drama (theatre), The Muses’ Company (poetry), Watson & Dwyer (Canadian social history) and J. Gordon Shillingford (politics, religion, true crime, biography).

Gordon worked passionately in support of Canadian literature and writers, provided opportunities and career development for many first-time authors, and ensured that local stories were told.

He was past-president and long-serving board member of the AMBP, an inspiration to many publishers, writers and readers, and a strong advocate of Manitoban and Canadian culture.

We miss you Gordon!
